Recently selected to join our 2003 Merlot on the wine list at Del Frisco's
Double Eagle Steak House in Fort Worth.

This cab is wonderfully ripe and luscious. Strong notes of cherry and berry hit the tongue and carry thru to the mid palate, delivering plum, fig, black cherry, spice, currant and light cedar.
Caris thinks is this is the best wine she's made to date.

LightCatcher White Wines

Just Released: 2008 LightCatcher Barrel Reserve Chardonnay
Texas High Plains Appellation
Canada Vineyard

Bronze Medal - 2009 Lone Star Int'l

We barrel aged a portion of the Chardonnay harvest in a one year old French oak Cote d'Or barrel for nine months - this is the result - a perfectly balanced, delicious wine that is not too oakey, and has wonderful flavors of pear and tropical fruits complemented by hazelnut and butterscotch. Fabulous with bacon wrapped scallops, roasted corn soup, asiago risotto.

2007 LightCatcher Etain's Rose
Texas High Plains Appellation
Texas Reserve Grand Champion - Houston LSR 2008
Bronze medal

A DRY rosé that is suited to more delicate foods, with bright notes of strawberry and kiwi. Pairs with more subtle dishes such as filet of sole, simple roast chicken and white cheeses. It's named after Etain, the Celtic Goddess of Light - we imagine this is her favorite wine.

LightCatcher 2005 Orange Muscat (dry)
Newsom Vineyard • Texas High Plains Appellation

Gold Medal

This wine, one of only ten selected from all Texas wineries, was taken to Manhattan to be poured in a blind tasting for NY wine and food writers. It was put up against a world class wine, a Bott Freres Grand Cru Muscat from France, and... WON!

Alsatian in style - dry but fruity...this Orange Muscat leads you in fine style to big flavors of papaya, apricot, pineapple and, of course, citrus.

Pair it with dishes napped with cream sauces, blue cheeses, roast chicken, salmon, duck and goose. Also very good with middle-eastern and some asian foods - we love it with yellow curries, eggplant and lemon chicken.

Calling 'stunning' by wine writer Don Pullam, and 'will give Alsatian winemakers nightmares'.

LightCatcher Knotport - Fortified Dessert Wine

Our new dessert wine tastes of black cherries, warm spices and chocolate. It's fortified with fine brandy and is ready to add to the warmth of a winter's fire and snuggles with your honey. It is not syrupy and "hot" (tasting of alcohol) - we've crafted a lighter, delicious dessert wine that can be enjoyed year round. Try it with cheesecake, chocolate truffles or creamy blue cheese and toasted walnuts.
$39

We make three brands that show off our mid-priced wines made from grapes from a variety of vineyards:

Texas Roads - whites and reds
Texas Kiss - our famous rosé, usually made from Merlot grapes
Happy Dog - our sweet red
Happy Cat - a white blend

Our 'Grapesteer' ™ logo is widely used in the winery. Since we're a Fort Worth winery (where Molly the Longhorn is the official logo), our grape 'take' on a longhorn fits us, and helps to illustrate our true Texan nature.

Texas High Plains Appellation
Silver Medal - 2008 Southwest Wines, label

Simply delicious, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot shows deep dark berry and cherry flavors, with undertones of vanilla, cedar and warm spices. Released in mid January 2008, it is flying off the shelves - a lot of "bang for your buck". Very fruit forward and friendly.

Just Released: Texas Roads 2008 Merlot
Texas High Plains Appellation

Very fruit forward, easy-drinking softer merlot with loads of berry, chocolate and cherry flavors. Great with tomato-sauced foods, red meats, pizza, and soft enough to pair with a nice roast chicken.

This Kiss is a little bit sweet, crisp and fruity, with Texas-sized 'kisses' of flavors - cherry, apple, cranberry and strawberry. It is perfect on the patio on a hot day, or paired with BBQ, Mexican food and, believe it or not, sushi! It is our way of 'kicking it up a notch', and delivering a lot of flavor in a lighter wine. It's like a jewel in the glass, rosy and clean.

Just Released: 2008 Happy Cat
Texas White Wine
Silver Medal - 2009 Lone Star International
Silver Medal - 2008 National Women Winemaker's
Bronze Medal - 2008 Lone Star International

Our new Happy Cat is a blend of Chardonnay, Muscat Canelli and Orange Muscat - fruity, delicious, a bit sweet.
Chai, our winery cat, was watching the sun set one afternoon from her favorite wine barrel perch. Caris saw her and grabbed her camera - as she focused, Chai turned to look at her with a look of complete love and happiness. When we made this blend and tasted it, we looked at eachother with love and happiness too. This wine is similar to a tropical reisling - aromas of honeysuckle and pear lead into flavors of grapefruit, mango and pineapple with a long, citrus finish. Semi sweet.

A delicious, fun, sweet red wine - a runaway best seller. Sweet but not too sweet, deep flavors and an unexpected complexity for a less expensive, sweet red. Flavors of cherry, caramel, brown sugar, and plum. Pairs GREAT with hot, spicy foods - the sweet balances heat.

Named for our dog, Mai, who, when Caris was a home winemaker, loved to lick her arms clean after she'd been working with fermenting wine - she'd sit with such a look we'd say, 'Aren't you a happy dog!'. Now you can be too.

"Big Red Wines of Texas"
By Randy McCrea, CSW
Owner and principal, A Class of Wine, LLC

Looking for something hearty to go along with rich, luxurious fall dishes like Osso Buco? (see My Recipe in this issue)

I suggest you try some powerful red wines from Texas that can cut through the oils and fats of beef, pork, veal, and game birds and refresh your palate. Here are a few favorites based on a recent tasting at the 3rd Annual Texas Fall Fest & Wine Auction. My ratings are 0-5 with 5 being best.

2005 Messina Hof Winery “Reflections”. This Bordeaux-style wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a medium-full body and good fruit flavors. Not quite as hearty as those listed before. About $25. Rating: 3.5

2004 Llano Estacado “Viviano”. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and a bit of Merlot is very dry and whams you with dark fruit flavors and tannin. About $40. Rating: 4.5

2004 Fall Creek “Meritus.” This wine is very dry with good fruit and firm tannins. The 2004’s blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Malbec. About $40. Rating: 4.5

2004 Lightcatcher Cabernet Sauvignon. This delightful wine made from fruit of the Newsome [sic] Vineyard blasts cherry and dark berry aromas out of the glass. Its rich flavors impress no less and it has a heartiness with mature tannins, yet lots of finesse. About $30. Rating: 4.5
